Job description

CTA is seeking a talented DevOps engineer to work on the modernization of one of the most critical data systems in progressive politics. CTA is undertaking work with a key progressive organization to completely rebuild key infrastructure. As the infrastructure engineer of this ground-floor initiative, you will play a central role in rebuilding a piece of data infrastructure central to the progressive ecosystem. This career-defining opportunity offers the chance to shape a high-impact project from the ground up, leveraging modern data technologies and DevOps practices. You’ll work within the supportive framework of an established, mission-driven organization with a history of delivering transformative solutions.

As an infrastructure and reliability engineer, you’ll lead operations work, partnering with our engineering team to find scalable, repeatable, and secure solutions to complex technical challenges. You’ll partner closely with technical leadership and the client to ensure we implement observability, reliability, security, and resiliency in a greenfield environment. You’ll help us through the occasional outage and help us understand how always to improve detection and resilience.

About us

Community Tech Alliance is a group of progressive technologists and strategists formed to provide data infrastructure building blocks to the progressive ecosystem at a low cost. CTA seeks to uplevel program impact by unlocking the potential of data, using software and data engineering, and removing the barriers to entry. We are a small team of engineers, data practitioners, product managers, and strategists looking to create infrastructure for progressive change.

Community Tech Alliance believes strongly that:

  • Inclusive teams are strongest, and supportive work environments take investment, intentionality, and openness

  • Empathy is the cornerstone of building smart technology solutions

  • All team members should take ownership of the project and team’s development

  • Iteration is key, and smart solutions require action not perfection

  • Nothing great has been built without making mistakes and learning from them

Job requirements

As a DevOps Engineer, you should:

  • Solve pressing infrastructure challenges with a strong focus on reliability, security, cost, and the productivity of engineers and end users

  • Make thoughtful, confident changes in complex networking, IAM, and cloud environments

  • Help deliver a secure-by-default experience for our client and internal teams

  • Be comfortable working in fast-paced environments where priorities can shift and pragmatism matters

  • Have experience implementing budgeting, cost controls, and infrastructure observability in production environments

  • Have hands-on experience with core Google Cloud Platform services such as Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud Run, IAM, VPC networking, and logging/monitoring tools

  • Have experience using Google Cloud security capabilities such as IAM, Secret Manager, audit logging, policy controls, vulnerability management, or related tooling

  • Have experience in client-facing or cross-functional work communicating infrastructure performance, status, and cost to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Be interested in thoughtfully adopting AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve code quality, reliability, and security

We use things like:

  • AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and Gemini Code Assist

  • Typescript, Javascript, SQL, Python, and Docker run on serverless or managed Kubernetes

  • Infrastructure as Code tools including HashiCorp Terraform

  • Google Cloud Platform services such as Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Dataform, Cloud Run, Secret Manager, and Cloud Logging

  • Collaboration and operational tools such as Slack, Jira, and Notion

We don’t expect every applicant to know or have worked with every technology we’ve listed, so we urge you to apply if you’re interested and some of the above apply to you! We’re looking for engineers of all levels and hiring for the people over the position above all else.
